How your transcript is made

Speech recognition software runs on my own computer here in Kenai, so your recordings never go to an outside service. Then I read and correct every transcript by hand, including names, places, and Alaska words that software gets wrong. Hard-to-hear parts are marked [inaudible] instead of guessed.

You get a .txt transcript (plus an .srt subtitle file with subtitles) on your USB/disc and by private download link.

(I’ll text you the mailing address and tips)

Key points of our Service Agreement
  • You only pay for real footage. Film, tapes and audio are priced by the recorded minutes we measure after scanning, never blank tape. Nothing is charged until we send you an exact pay link.
  • Photos are quoted first. We review each photo and set the price before you pay.
  • Payment comes before delivery. Your files and originals are released once you've paid.
  • Old media can break, and restoration is best effort. Our liability is limited to what you paid for the affected item.
  • Delivered files are kept 90 days. A re-send costs half the original price.
  • You must own or have the rights to everything you send.

Required before you submit an order.

No payment now. I’ll confirm your price when I see the media. Your info is only used for your order.

Shipping it?

Mailing your media

  1. Pack it tight in a box. Wrap tapes, reels, and photos so nothing slides around, and fill gaps with paper or bubble wrap. Use a box, not a padded envelope.
  2. Use a tracked service (USPS, UPS, or FedEx) and keep your tracking number. Put a note inside with your name, phone, and job number if you have one.
  3. I text you when it arrives, and again before it ships back. You pick the return shipping option, and I tell you the cost first.

Choose “I’ll mail it instead” in the order form above and I’ll text you the mailing address.

Questions

FAQ

Are my originals safe? Do I get them back?

Yes. I handle every item myself, and your originals come back to you with your files. Very old media can be fragile, so if something looks risky I’ll tell you before I start.

What do I get back?

Digital files you can play on a computer, phone, or TV: video at its original resolution and frame rate (1080p for film; standard definition for tapes), with optional, priced upscale add-ons (film 2K or 4K, tapes HD 1080p, and smoother 60 fps motion), audio files for cassettes, and print-ready image files for photos. They come on a USB flash drive, CD, or DVD, which you choose in the calculator.

How do I get my media to you?

Drop it off in Kenai, meet me in Kenai or Soldotna, or mail it. Pick one in the order form and I’ll text or call to set it up.

How long is my tape or reel?

Check the label or box: VHS tapes say T-120 (2 hours at normal speed, up to 6 hours in long-play/EP), cassettes say C60, C90, or C120 (minutes for both sides). Film reels are measured by their width: a 3″ reel holds about 4 minutes and a 7″ reel about 30. Not sure? Pick “Not sure” and you still only pay for the footage that’s really there.

My tape is broken or moldy. Can you help?

Tell me first, before you send it, and I’ll let you know what I can do. I don’t offer mold cleaning.

Will you share or post my files?

No. Your files are never shared or posted anywhere without your written permission. See the Service Agreement for details.
